We know that afterschool and other community educators are keenly attuned to the needs of girls they serve. In this webinar, we’ll look specifically at gender equity issues in STEM learning and consider how current research on this topic can help inform and shape practice.

Following up on our webinar last month, “Equity in Making and Tinkering,” we’re going to take a step back and examine the current research on making and tinkering for K-12 learners. Many of us have questions about the learning outcomes and goals for making and tinkering in afterschool and how educators can best facilitate these experiences. In this webinar we will discuss resources released as part of the Relating Research to Practice project.

The Afterschool Alliance and Mozilla have partnered up this year to bring you the Lights On Afterschool Webmaker Challenge, a simple, fun activity to help afterschool programs develop students’ webmaking and digital literacy skills. For the Challenge, students will design their own digital poster showcasing their favorite afterschool programs on Mozilla’s Webmaker platform.
