About this webinar:

The United States is currently facing a civic engagement predicament, but we can turn the tides by promoting the growth of civically minded individuals from a young age. Not only are youth who participate in civic engagement activities more likely to remain engaged in the long term, they also experience short-term benefits such as improved academic performance, sense of belonging, and overall well-being.

Together with the Center for Global Education at Asia Society, the Afterschool Alliance is co-hosting a webinar to engage in a lively discussion on the critical role of afterschool and summer learning programs in creating a civically informed and involved society. Hear about how afterschool and summer learning programs are uniquely positioned to offer the valuable hands-on experiences that shape students into knowledgeable, engaged, and globally-minded community members.

Join us for a conversation with YWCA New Britain and Equity Alliance MN to see how they have successfully implemented afterschool programs that bring the lessons of democracy to life, lift up youth voice, and empower youth to be change makers. The new brief released by the Afterschool Alliance in partnership with the Center for Global Education at Asia Society, “Promoting Civic Engagement through Afterschool Programs”, will also be shared to provide a framework for discussion on youth civic engagement.
