Afterschool for All Challenge Guest Highlight: Mark Bryan from Hootie & the Blowfish

Mark Bryan, of the multi-platinum earning band “Hootie and the Blowfish,” knows a thing or two about music performance and production; in addition to being one of the band’s founding members and lead guitarist, Mark writes records and produces his own solo material (his latest efforts can be heard on the solo release “End of the Front”).

And what has he done with all that success? Shared it with youth in his community! Mark co-founded Carolina Studios, an afterschool program based in Charleston, South Carolina in which young people are encouraged to develop their potential through the exploration of digital recording, digital photography, videography and graphic arts.

With his demonstrated commitment to afterschool and youth development (and his impressive musical chops!), we are thrilled to feature Mark Bryan at this year’s Afterschool for All Challenge. Mark will help us raise the voice of afterschool, speaking at our action-packed Capitol Hill rally on the second day of the convention. And of course, we wouldn’t think of passing up the opportunity to hear his musical stylings. Mark will perform at the “Breakfast of Champions” along with two youth from the Carolina Studios program.

Given the array of exciting and practical workshop offerings, the timely opportunity to discuss afterschool with your Members of Congress and the participation of special guests like Mark, we’re certain that this year’s convention will be well worth your time. The registration deadline is fast approaching, so sign up today!
