We'll begin to address these questions in a the first webinar of an ongoing series focused on gender-specific programming in afterschool.

We invite you to join us for a presentation and interactive discussion with Dr. Robin Elliott, Associate Dean & Director of SEL at Long Island University and Larry Taylor, Executive Director of Youth Development at YMCA of Greater Houston in which they will discuss proven strategies to support front line staff and help them stay centered while simultaneously working to recruit, hire and retain new staff. After brief presentations, there will be a panel discussion facilitated by Elle Essenmacher with Harmony SEL and an open Q&A with the audience.

Presenters will also discuss the important role of the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers as well as funding included in the American Rescue Plan that is being used to support local afterschool and summer learning programs nationwide.

In this webinar, guest speakers involved with a successful housing authority/afterschool partnership in Southern California will discuss: the benefits of their partnership, the challenges they’ve overcome and suggestions for housing authorities and afterschool providers looking to initiate similar partnerships in their own communities.

The United States is currently facing a civic engagement predicament, but we can turn the tides by promoting the growth of civically minded individuals from a young age. Join us for a conversation with YWCA New Britain and Equity Alliance MN to see how they have successfully implemented afterschool programs that bring the lessons of democracy to life, lift up youth voice, and empower youth to be change makers. 

In communities across the country, anxiety and concern are growing among immigrant children and families in response to new immigration policies and efforts currently underway. With guidance and help from the American Constitution Society, this webinar features experts from Legal Services for Children and the National Immigration Law Center who will focus on the ways in which afterschool program providers can best support their students and families. 

Many afterschool providers are struggling to provide opportunities for young people and families in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and financial assistance and flexibility is often needed. We will talk through opportunities included in the three major COVID-19 response bills, as well as a glimpse into what’s proposed for next round of legislation.  

Nearly 90% of families in the U.S. became eligible for the Child Tax Credit (CTC) when it was expanded last year. Families can still claim the full 2021 CTC - up to $3,600 per child per family - by filing tax returns this year. Join the Afterschool Alliance, Out of School Time Coalition partners, the Coalition on Human Needs and the Partnership for America's Children for a training on what the expanded CTC is, who is eligible, and how you can help families you work with claim this critical benefit.
