This is the first in a series of advocacy-focused webinars sponsored by the Bowne Foundation. During this 30-minute webinar, guest speakers will share how they engage parents and prepare them to be effective afterschool advocates through hands-on training and other initiatives.

In this webinar we explore the state of computing and engineering within K-12 education, and the role of afterschool as an important ally. We’ll also hear from afterschool leaders that are working to provide quality engineering and/or computing programs to youth in cities from Santa Fe to Baltimore.

All students deserve opportunities for rigorous and meaningful STEM learning, regardless race or ethnicity, culture, gender, socioeconomic status, language, or disability status. It’s not enough to just provide increased access—we must think carefully about how we design programs, choose curriculum or projects, and interact with youth to best support their success in STEM.

This webinar will focus on Title IV of ESSA and opportunities for community-school partnerships such as the Student Success and Academic Enrichment block grant, 21st Century Community Learning Centers, Full Service Community Schools, Promise Neighborhoods, and Statewide Family Engagement Centers.
