About this webinar:

The past year has seen a wave of youth and student activists who have made their voices heard on a variety of topics and taken the national stage by storm. It’s clear that many children and youth have important things to say about issues they are passionate about, and youth development programs are uniquely suited to create a platform to amplify those voices.

Join us for a webinar that discusses how afterschool and summer learning opportunities can provide the support and skills students want and need to raise their voices in public discourse and advocate for the issues and programs they care about. We’ll also be walking through how to celebrate and promote these activities as part of your 2018 Lights On Afterschool celebration.

We’re thrilled to be joined by two talented and passionate youth, Kyra-Lee Harry and Harli Jo McKinney, who have not only honed these civic engagement skills through their respective programs, but also have in turn used their abilities to advocate for expanded access to quality afterschool programs. Afterschool Alliance’s own Faith Savaiano will also be joining to provide some ideas and resources for incorporating youth voice into your Lights On Afterschool event and advocating for afterschool and summer learning funding.

Speakers:

  • Kyra-Lee Harry2018 4-H Youth in Action award recipient
  • Harli Jo McKinney, Afterschool Youth Ambassador, class of 2018
  • Faith Savaiano, Communications Associate, Afterschool Alliance
