About this webinar:

This is the second installment of our 6-part Lights On Afterschool webinar series. Lights On Afterschool is a national celebration of the afterschool programs that keeps kids safe, inspire learning and help working families. Every year, more than 1 million Americans attend more than 8,000 Lights On Afterschool events in all 50 states and in the District of Columbia.

In this webinar, we will discuss a variety of strategies and considerations when planning your event and reaching out to policy makers to make sure that your Lights On Afterschool event makes a big splash!

Policy makers at every level are vital to expanding the resources available to support afterschool programs. You can invite them to your event or ask them to issue a proclamation - any connection is a good one! Light On Afterschool provides an excellent opportunity for political candidates to speak to constituents about their commitment to afterschool. The presence of candidates can raise the profile of your event and increase media attention. We will also be joined two of our amazing Afterschool Ambassadors, Kim Templeman and Patrick Pinchinat, and Patrick's colleague Marlena Starace, who will provide some great insights and suggestions from their own experience bringing policy makers to Lights On Afterschool events!

Speakers:
  • Jillian Luchner, Policy Associate, Afterschool Alliance
  • Kim Templeman, Afterschool Ambassador & Principal, Centrak Oak Elementary School, OK
  • Patrick Pinchinat, Beacon Director, Afterschool Ambassador Emeritus, Queens Community House
  • Marlena Starace, Afterschool Leadership Coordinator, Queens Community House
