In part two of this interactive web series, participants will immerse themselves in the rest of the FrameWorks Institute’s evidence-based reframing strategies for talking effectively with the public about informal STEM learning. We’ll look at why individual success stories can backfire, discuss how to explain the relationship of afterschool programs to classroom learning, and review tested strategies for talking about disparities in STEM education. Yet for every one rural child in an afterschool program, there are three more waiting to get in. Join us for an audience-centric webinar featuring guest speakers who will share systems of support in place at the state level, promising practices and key strategies to address the challenges unique to afterschool programs in rural communities.

The Framework for K-12 Science Education, developed by the National Academies of Sciences, offers a powerful new vision for American science education. In this webinar we’ll focus on what is new and different about the Framework’s vision for science education and how afterschool organizations are designing programs and staff professional development to help young people engage with the Framework.

Reading, writing and thinking critically are important skills students need to succeed, but during the summer, students can lose approximately two months of reading achievement. Two programs featured in a newly released issue brief will join us to talk about their work keeping their students engaged in literacy during the school year and into the summer months.

This webinar will focus on Title IV of ESSA and opportunities for community-school partnerships such as the Student Success and Academic Enrichment block grant, 21st Century Community Learning Centers, Full Service Community Schools, Promise Neighborhoods, and Statewide Family Engagement Centers.
