What: Mic Drop! will showcase the stories and aspirations of young people participating in high-quality creative youth development programs and experiences in afterschool. This event will include a livecast from Los Angeles with streamed and recorded performances from around the country.
When: October 26, 2021
1:00-2:30 p.m. PST for Central and East Coast Programs
4:00-5:30 p.m. PST for Pacific, Mountain, Hawaii, and Alaska programs
Why: As education rises from the disruption and destruction of COVID-19, young people need the space and opportunity to share their stories and express themselves. The event will also recognize and celebrate the long and rich history of creative youth development in the OST community.
Who: Mizzen will identify artists in grades 6-12 from across the 50 State Afterschool Network whose work elevates youth voice and exemplifies the high-quality visual and performing arts experiences being offered in afterschool programs across the country. The primary audience is 6th-12th graders, Out-of-School (OST) time programs, and other youth development stakeholders.
Reach: Mizzen will collaborate with the 50-State Afterschool Network and other national organizations to promote the event nationwide.
Experience: This unique Mizzen event will provide a national platform for young people to share their stories and aspirations through the visual and performing arts.
Designed to elevate youth voice, showcase the arts, and recognize the important role of OST programs in the future of education, Mic Drop! will feature live and pre-recorded performances and showcases of inspiring music, art, dance, poetry, song and related arts programming performed and shared by young people across America.
The event will be co-hosted by Mizzen by Mott's CEO and a special guest. Mic Drop! hosts will invite young artists to share how the arts are a vehicle for self-expression and self-advocacy for themselves, their peers and their communities.
